Dr. Amina Gordon's revolutionary approach to college readiness challenges deficit narratives and transforms how we understand student potential. She proves that communities of color possess unique cultural capital that, when recognized and nurtured, empowers the next generation to achieve extraordinary academic success.
Dr. Gordon is the CEO, Founder, and Senior Consultant of Cultural Confidence Consultant, LLC, specializing in pre-college program development, culturally responsive college counseling, and educators' family engagement initiatives.
Previously serving as Assistant Principal of College Supervision at a prestigious 6-12 early college school in NYC, she led programs that achieved: 85.7% of students reaching college-ready performance levels, 98% earning transferable college credits, and 82% of grades earned being A+/A. Under her leadership, scholars maintained a combined GPA of over 3.1, with more than one-third earning honor scholar status.
Dr. Gordon is also a graduate professor in the School of Education at St. John's University, and she serves on dissertation committees for doctoral students in student services education at other universities.
With 20+ years of experience in education, Dr. Gordon's journey began as a mathematics teacher in Jamaica in 2001. After migrating to the United States in 2005, she has served as a special education teacher, a dual-enrollment supervisor at an early college, and a founder of a peer tutoring program.
